THE 39 STEPS, VIOLET and More Set for Actors Co-op's 2017-18 Season

Actors Co-op (Ovation Winner 2014 Best Production of a Musical (Intimate Theatre) has announced its 26th Season of shows! Opening with Patrick Barlow's great piece of theatrical fun, based on the mystery thriller revised as a farce THE 39 STEPS; followed by the belovEd Kaufman and Hart comedy classic THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. In 2018 we will take A WALK IN THE WOODS by Lee Blessing; followed by Robert Bolts' "must see" historical drama A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS; the 2017 - 2018 Season closes with the multi-award winning powerhouse musical VIOLET, book and lyrics Brian Crawley, music by Jeanine Tesori.

September 22 - October 29, 2017 "Logic is dull." - Alfred Hitchcock And it is with those words, playwright Patrick Barlow has crafted a crazy, over-the-top spy novel-type mystery that will have you laughing and giggling and aha-ing in your seat. This six-time Tony Award nominee comes to life with flashes of Hitchcock movies, sprinkles of Monty Python humor, and a good dose of romance to boot.

Deck the halls with mirth and mayhem!?
Get in the Christmas spirit with this comedy classic of the nightmare holiday guest who never leaves-or so it seems. Ex-convicts in the dining room, penguins in the library, and thousands of cockroaches in the kitchen, are just a few of the fallouts from the visitor who outstayed his welcome.

Crossley Theatre A WALK IN THE WOODS by Lee Blessing February 9 - March 18, 2018 1987 Finalist Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 2015 Drama Desk Award Nominee? ? From beloved playwright Lee Blessing, comes a story of relationship between two arms negotiators and what happens when they step out of the war room and into the woods. A WALK IN THE WOODS, produced in 1988, played on Broadway, and Time magazine called it one of the best dramas to hit the stage that year.

"Some of us must journey far to find the beauty that lives within." And so young Violet boards a bus in 1964 North Carolina, determined to make the trek to a TV evangelist in Oklahoma. She is convinced he can heal her scar, which was the result of a traumatic childhood accident. From American roots to folk to gospel, VIOLET is a powerhouse of music and theatre that will have you tapping your toes, slapping your knees, and wiping your eyes. (Recommended for ages 13 and older.)

Actors Co-op operates two 99-seat Equity-approved theatres on the campus of First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. Actors Co-op began in 1987 with a dozen actors. Currently, its membership exceeds 50 professionals. Called "a 99-seat miracle" by Daily Variety, Actors Co-op's numerous awards for theatre excellence include the Los Angeles Drama Critics Polly Warfield Award for "Outstanding Season" (2013) in a small to mid-sized theatre, the Margaret Harford Award for "Sustained Achievement" in smaller theatre from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, the Charlie Award for "Excellence in the Arts" by the Hollywood Arts Council, as well as numerous Ovation Award nominations and wins including a nomination for "Best Season" (2013-2014) and the win for Best Musical (2014).

Since the Crossley Theatre opened its doors in April of 1989 and its second theatre, the David Schall Theatre opened February of 1995, Actors Co-op has produced over 100 main stage productions, over 40 Second Stage productions, staged readings of original works, and has received 23 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards (seven wins), 34 LA Weekly Award nominations (six wins), 38 Ovation Award nominations (five wins), five Garland Awards and 125 Drama-Logue Awards.

Actors Co-op is located at 1760 N. Gower Street, Hollywood, CA 90028, on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, one block north of Hollywood Boulevard, just off the Gower Street exit of the 101 Hollywood Freeway. Free, well-lit parking is available on Carlos Street (1/2 block east of Gower). Entrance to the theatre is on Carlos Avenue.
